I wasn’t sure how to start introducing my cleaning methods and schedules, etc on my blog but I think that my weekly cleaning schedule is a good place. This cleaning schedule is the foundation of the routine that keeps my house [mostly] clean, even with 4 kids ages 4-13.
Simplicity is the only way I’ll stick to something. If it’s even a tiny bit complicated I won’t follow through, that’s just how I am. Especially when it comes to cleaning. I love a clean home but I don’t always love to clean. Sometimes I’m just not in the mood for an all day cleaning session, and the routine I follow is perfect for others like me.
I start my weeks on Mondays instead of Sundays because I follow my husbands work schedule and my kids’ school schedule, but you can start this on any day of the week and it will work out perfectly for you.
So, here we go..
On Mondays, I deep clean my bathroom. I scrub my tub, my toilet, my sink, the walls, the closets get cleaned out and organized [as needed], everything. I sweep and mop the floor, as well. Even though I do tidy up and wipe down my sink and mirror daily, Monday is where I really get everything super squeaky clean.
On Tuesdays, it’s kitchen day – my favorite! I despise doing dishes and cooking, but I love cleaning the kitchen. I’m so odd, I know. Kitchen day means cleaning out the fridge, wiping down all of my appliances [big and small], sweeping [which I do at least once a day everyday, no matter what] and mopping the floor, scrubbing down my dining table really well and polishing it, wiping down the cabinets and organizing them as needed, wiping down the walls [especially by the dining table and stove], and I also wipe down my back door and back screen door on kitchen day, as well.
On Wednesdays, I tackle bedrooms. This is the day that takes me the longest because I have three [currently] bedrooms to do and my childrens’ rooms can take awhile. Kids are the best at staying tidy, let’s be honest. I wipe down walls, wash all bed sheets, vacuum the mattresses and carpet, dust the dressers, wipe down mirrors, and clean the TVs. I also will put away any clothes left out, whether that’s putting away clean clothes or taking dirty clothes to the laundry room.
On Thursdays, I tackle my living areas – so my living room [and if you have a family room, that would be today, as well]. I wipe down the walls, clean out and organize my entertainment center and bookshelf, clean the TV, vacuum the couch and carpet, dust and wipe down any mirrors and decor.
On Fridays, I deep clean all of the floors. That means scrubbing hard floors on my hands and knees, and using my carpet cleaner in carpeted areas. I wash down all hard floors every Friday, but I rotate with carpet cleaning, as it takes a long time and doesn’t need done in every room on a weekly basis. My bedrooms don’t need it done nearly as often as my entry hallway and living room. You’ll find what works for you, and how often it needs done at your house, if you have carpet, too.
This is the super simple, easy to follow schedule I use every single week to keep my home clean and tidy. I also have daily tasks that I do every day, monthly tasks that get added in periodically and seasonal tasks as well, but this is the basics! Stay tuned for my daily, monthly and seasonal task lists soon [and printables, too]!
I hope you find this helpful and that you can adjust this to make it work for you and your life. Anything that makes homemaking easier, more simple and more fun is always a win in my book!
